by HBA of North Georgia on 01/16/17

On Tuesday, February 21st, members of our association will be traveling to the state capitol for our annual Legislative Day. All members are invited to attend this event. This is a chance to meet the leadership of the State Association, as well as the legislators from your area.  We are in a unique position considering that both the Governor and Lt. Governor are from our area.
Anyone interested in attending this event, please contact Mike at the HBA office for more information.

Help us send Tracy Rogers into reitrement.

by HBA of North Georgia on 11/29/16

The HBA of North Georgia will be celebrating Tracy Rogers this week at our Thursday meeting. Tracy has been with the HBA for more years than we can count. After 35 years with Jackson EMC, Tracy will be hanging it up in January. We wanted to take some time at our next meeting to let Tracy know how much we appreciate him and how much he will be missed in our industry. Please come out and join us this Thursday at noon at the Gainesville Civic Center.

New Overtime Rule Put on Hold

by HBA of North Georgia on 11/25/16

Good news for all small businesses. A Texas federal judge has granted a preliminary injunction against the new overtime rule that would have doubled the salary required for an employee to be put on salary. Although this is just a temporary injunction, it is a good sign moving forward. The rule was scheduled to go into effect on December 1st.

Economic Impact of Trump's Victory

by HBA of North Georgia on 11/20/16

President-elect Donald Trump will undoubtedly have a profound and lasting impact on economic policy throughout his presidency. Costly business regulations are likely to be reduced or rolled back; rate-reducing, base-broadening, comprehensive tax reform will be under active consideration; and the leadership of the Federal Reserve will change in 2018.

The nation's low unemployment is placing pressure on the Federal Reserve to raise short-term interest rates, and those rates will influence many future policy decisions. The incoming Administration, in cooperation with a Republican-controlled Congress, will likely pursue policy that will boost GDP growth in the short run. However, if policy changes result in a growing deficit or overheating labor markets, interest rates will rise (faster) in response. Moreover, any policy changes that restrict trade will act as a drag on economic growth.

Interest rates are sure to grow in the years ahead. Smart policy is needed to identify economic efficiencies that will help limit how quickly those rate increases accelerate, thereby supporting housing affordability and improving business lending conditions in the longer term.
